If it is just a pimple or pustule you can apply the toothpaste on it. Keep it overnight and wash away in the morning. It is always advised to ice your pimple for 8-10 minutes before applying toothpaste on pimples.

Things to ensure while applying toothpaste:

Ensure that the toothpaste is original paste and not a gel. Per toothpaste with less ingredients and additives.

Organic or natural toothpastes are a better option.

This remedy should be used as a quick fix once in a while.

Do not make it a regular habit to use toothpaste on pimples.

There are a lot of over the counter products that can be use to dry the pimples.

Nowadays there are a lot of chemicals used in toothpastes which are harmful for skin. Thus it is recommended that instead of using toothpaste on pimples one should use use a gels or medicines which are specially meant for healing pimples.

Pain Tournesol Sunflower Bread

Our this months Defi Boulange, a fabulous bread baking event by Nadia and Manue challenged us a beautiful sunflower shaped bread. Its first time am trying my hands in making a flower shaped bread, am quite happy with the outcome. Everyone at home, simply loved this bread, i combined both all purpose flour and ashirvad atta flour for making this beautiful bread, which suits pectly for this weeks blogging marathon coz the theme for this week is baking with wholegrains.

I love wholegrains, i do cook and bake quite often with them. Actually ill try to add a wholegrain atleast once a day. If its rice for lunch,my dinner will be definitely something with oats or whole wheat. Even my small family started loving the foods prepared with wholegrains eventhough sometimes i have mix and match or completely make the wholegrains as i have some picky eaters at home. But seriously i never failed to feed my family with whole grains. Coming to this bread, this bread goes for usual bread dough, its bit consuming while shaping else you can bake this bread once a while. You can serve this bread with any kind of foods and will attract everyone if you present this bread along with other foods in a party menu table.Check out the Blogging Marathon page for the other Blogging Marathoners doing BM#25.

4cups All purpose flour
1cup Atta flour/wheat flour
2tsp Active dry yeast
2tsp Salt
1tsp Sugar
1/4cup Olive oil
1/2cup Warm milk
2cups Warm water
30grms Butter (room temperature)
1no Egg yolk
1tbsp Water
Black poppy seeds
Sesame seeds

Dissolve the sugar and the yeast in the 1/2 cup of warm milk. Keep aside for about 5 minutes till the yeast mixture bubbles up.

Put flours, salt, olive oil, in the bowl and mix it well with your fingers.

Add the yeast mixture and the warm water and knead till you have a soft, smooth and pliable dough which is not sticky. Add a little extra flour if your dough is sticky.

Shape the dough into a ball and place it in a bowl greased with oil, turn the dough to coat it completely with oil.

Cover and let it rise for 2 hours or until the dough almost double in volume.

Divide the dough into 2 large equal balls, keep aside one ball.

Please check Nadias space to know how she shaped her sunflower bread.

Take a large ball and divide as 5equal balls, roll each balls as a circle disc of 20cm diameter, brush the top of a circle and place an another circle over it,do this with 4circles.

Place the fifth circle on the top and stretch it to close the sides of the other circles. Cut in the middle of the circle as 8 equal wedges, take care not to cut upto the edges.

Transfer it to a baking sheet and turn the wedges outside to fall like the petals as shown in the picture.

Take the another large bowl, make a small ball from the dough and keep aside.

Again divide equal balls from the remaining dough and roll each balls 12cm diameter, brush the top of each circle with butter, place an another circle over it.

Place the fifth circle on the top, stretch it to close the sides, place this circle in the middle of the already prepared petals like dough.

Cut in the middle of the circle as 8 equal wedges and turn the wedges outside to fall like petals.

Now roll the small ball as a round ball and place in it the centre.

Keep in warm place for half an hour.

Preheat the oven to 350F, brush the bread with egg yolk mixed with water, springle generously the black poppyseeds, black sesame seeds on the top of the unbaked bread.

Bake for 25-30minutes until the crust turns golden brown, keep aside and let them cool completely.

You can enjoy this bread with any spreads or meats.

Calorie Restriction With Optimal Nutrition CRON Life Extension

It has been know for nearly 80 years that restricting calorie intake leads to an extension of life among most animal species. Many have speculated that the same principles may apply to humans as well, although it is a difficult theory to prove scientifically due to the extreme time frame required to conduct the experiment (in excess of 120 years!) Nevertheless, it is an intriguing theory which could provide many additional, healthy years to ones lifespan.

Calorie Restriction requires that 20% - 30% less calories are consumed below the normal level eaten. For example if 2500 calories are required to maintain a healthy weight, then around 1800 calories would constitute a restricted dietary lifestyle. The other component is to ensure that sufficient required vitamins and mineral nutrients are also included in the daily diet. Naturally this requires the elimination of all junk food in favor of healthful vegetables (mostly raw), minimal lean protein sources, nuts, seeds and oils.

To begin this type of diet, one must proceed slowly. Although weight loss is not the goal here, typically the pounds will come off... be sure to limit to no more than 1 - 2 pounds per week. This is because the body releases stored toxins in the body fat as it is reduced, and losing too rapidly can provide a toxic overload to the body. Once you have followed a health eating pattern for a minimum of two weeks, you will no longer crave the sugars, fried foods and fast foods which make up the typical Standard American Diet (SAD). The most important part of this eating style are the biochemical alterations which immediately occur in the body. Lipid profiles alter toward lower cholesterol ratios (HDL-C to Total Cholesterol and Triglycerides to HDL-C), which are the real indicators of cardiovascular health.

Blood pressure will decline to normal levels and your basal body temperature will typically fall to a level 1 - 2.5 degrees below the normal of 98.6. It is of note that the normal temperature reading is an average established over many years which is an example of the inflammation levels of the average person. Excess inflammation in the body results in higher body temperature. After several weeks of restriction, you will find your morning basal body temperature drop. This is a good indicator that you have already reduced your core temperature and that restriction is having a positive effect.

It is essential to monitor everything that you eat. You cannot follow this lifestyle without knowing the calorie and nutritional content of every item you consume. The best tool to use for monitoring is the free CRON-O-METER (spaz.ca/cronometer/). Enter all foods (and it is important to weigh the foods at first) in this handy tool as you eat. It will provide you with the calorie content as well as the nutritional breakdown. Mix your food choices to get the proper mix of nutrients. You will quickly find that there is no room for any food types which provide little or no nutritional value.

Food Visualization Can Aid Weight Loss Efforts

(Article first published as Mind Imagery May Lead to Weight Loss Success on Technorati.)
It’s important not to discount the power that our mind has over our conscious efforts to lose weight, as well as our subconscious desire to control the foods we eat. Our brain exerts a powerful influence over our actions and research indicates that thinking about eating a favorite food can actually help us to consume less of that food and save the calories as a bonus.

We are truly creatures of habit, and tend to eat the same foods in similar quantities on a regular basis. For most people this means we over consume calories without much conscious thought, and are unable to lose weight despite our short lived efforts at dieting. Sooner or later we slide back into the same dietary model and caloric consumption, slowly gaining extra pounds as our metabolism slows with age. It may be possible to harness the power of conscious thought toward a slimmer waistline.

Using Your Brain to Lose Weight
A common assumption is that thinking about our favorite food increases our craving for it and ultimately leads to consumption. The results of a study conducted at Carnegie Mellon University and published in the journal Science shows that when we imagine eating a food, our appetite for that food actually decreases. This study demonstrated that mind imagery has a much greater influence over our desire to eat than our physiological cue to eat.

Study participants were asked to imagine eating a large handful of M&M candy entirely in their mind, while a control group was asked to think about a different task, such as inserting quarters into a laundry machine. Both groups were then allowed to eat freely from a large bowl of M&M’s. The group members that envisioned eating the candy ate significantly less than the control subjects who had been asked to think about a non-food task.

Study Demonstrates Importance Beyond Weight Loss
The results of this research indicate that we may be able to control our desire for our favorite unhealthy food choices by mind imaging. It may be possible to change our habitual nature and lower the desire to eat foods in excess that perpetuate our weight. The study authors believe that there may also be implications for other habitual acts and conclude “we think these findings will help develop future interventions to reduce cravings for things such as unhealthy food, drugs and cigarettes, and hope they will help us learn how to help people make healthier food choices."

Using Mind Imaging to Avoid Unhealthy Food
You can use mind imaging to help avoid foods that you know will contribute to weight gain. Start by choosing one food item that you know you will be eating either at your next meal or commonly as a between meal snack. Create a vivid mental image of the food item. Next picture yourself consuming a large portion and imagine the taste sensation you normally experience as you enjoy every last morsel. Repeat this imagery in your mind several times. You should find a decreased desire to eat that food, or possibly you will be able to pass on the item entirely in the future.

Harnessing the power of the mind when trying to lose weight may be a great benefit to those who have tried other methods and failed. Mental imagery can be a powerful tool that can break the cycle of food habituation. Include food visualization as part of your total program to achieve successful weight loss.

As colorectal cancer gets more aggressive treatment with grape seed extract is even more effective

When the going gets tough, grape seed extract gets going: A University of Colorado Cancer Center study recently published in the journal Cancer Letters shows that the more advanced are colorectal cancer cells, the more GSE inhibits their growth and survival. On the other end of the disease spectrum, GSE leaves healthy cells alone entirely.

“We’ve known for quite a while that the bioactive compounds in grape seed extract selectively target many types of cancer cells. This study shows that many of the same mutations that allow colorectal cancer cells to metastasize and survive traditional therapies make them especially sensitive to treatment with GSE,” says Molly Derry, doctoral candidate in the lab of Rajesh Agarwal, PhD, investigator at the CU Cancer Center and professor at the Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences.

Derry notes this is an especially important finding in light of increasing colorectal cancer rates (due in part to increasingly high-fat diets and sedentary lifestyles) and a low screening rate; that means 60 percent of patients diagnosed have already reached the advanced stage of the disease.

“Finding a way to selectively target advanced colorectal cancer cells could have major clinical importance,” Derry says.

The group performed their experiments on colorectal cancer cell lines representing various stages of the disease. Whereas it generally takes much more chemotherapy to kill a stage IV cancer cell than a stage II cancer cell, Derry saw that the reverse was true with grape seed extract.

“It required less than half the concentration of GSE to suppress cell growth and kill 50 percent of stage IV cells than it did to achieve similar results in the stage II cells,” Derry says.

The group also discovered a likely mechanism of GSE’s perential targeting of advanced colorectal cancer cells: when cancer cells were treated with antioxidants the GSE induced cell death was reversed and so Derry and colleagues consider it likely that GSE targets colorectal cancer through inducing oxidative stress that leads to the programmed cell death known as apoptosis.

“A colorectal cancer cell can have upwards of 11,000 genetic mutations – differences from the DNA in healthy cells. Traditional chemotherapies may only target a specific mutation and as cancer progresses more mutations occur. These changes can result in cancer that is resistance to chemotherapy. In contrast, the many bioactive compounds of GSE are able to target multiple mutations. The more mutations a cancer presents, the more effective GSE is in targeting them,” Derry says.

Antidepressants increase the risk of diabetes in women

Antidepressants increase the risk of diabetes in women? - Women who are elderly should be caul if you want to take anti-depressant drugs. Recent research suggests that the anti-depressant drug could increase the risk of diabetes and cardiovascular disease in older women.

The results obtained after the researchers looked at data from several hundred women who have undergone menopause for eight years. Women taking anti-depression drugs are known to have a higher BMI, had a circumference larger dish, as well as signs of inflammation are more than women who did not take anti-depressant drugs.

All symptoms are associated with increased risk of cardiovascular disease and diabetes, as reported by U.S. News. These results are reported researchers in the American Journal of Public Health, published on 13 June.

"Its important to keep an eye on the depressed women after menopause and taking antidepressant medication. They must be vigilant to prevent diabetes and cardiovascular disease," said lead researcher Dr. Yunsheng Ma of the University of Massachusetts Medical School.

Although this study suggests that the consumption of anti-depressant drugs associated with increased risk of cardiovascular disease and diabetes, but this study did not show a causal link.
